I have to admit I wasn’t excited about seeing this movie when I heard the title or saw the previews, but I have to say I was surprised at how good it was.  This was like Taken it only has one well known actor in it, Clint Eastwood but despite this fact it was an awesome, well written film and it didn’t hurt that it was filmed in my hometown (Detroit, MI) so that was definitely a plus.  Nice directorial job by Clint Eastwood who we haven’t seen since Million Dollar Baby.  Gran Torino deserved all the awards it won from the National Board of Review (Top 10 Films, Best Original Screenplay: Nick Schenk, and Best Actor (obviously): Clint Eastwood.

Clint Eastwood plays a retired auto worker Walt Kowalski who spends his days doing home repairs, drinking beers, and monthly trips to his barber.  When his wife dies her last wish was for him to attend confessional at the church she attended, but this war veteran stands on the fact that he has nothing to confess so why go.  Walt is all alone after her death, his no good kids who never came to visit him away want to put him in a home, all the people he used to call neighbors have long moved away and been replaced by Hmong immigrants from Southeast Asia.  He’s angry and resentful of virtually everything he sees now from the gangs of Hmong, to the Latinos and African-American teens who think they own his neighborhood now.  Everything changes on the night someone tries to steal his ’72 Gran Torino and that is where there story takes a turn for the worse. 

I don’t want to give anyway too much of the movie because it is awesome, but it is a definite must see.  So that’s K’s take on it again, remember don’t see a movie without getting K’s take on it first.
